Our Tea Masters use the same blend you’ll find in our loose leaf Earl Grey. Assam is selected for its malty, biscuity notes. We use a high proportion of second-flush leaves (picked at the peak of the growing season) for a superior flavour. This is complemented by Ceylon leaves from some of the Sri Lanka’s best tea gardens, which add a brisk, refreshing liveliness to the blend. We then finish it with our fragrant and citrusy bergamot flavouring, which is exclusive to Ahmad Tea. This creates a beautiful balance of flavours, giving a rich, deep-amber infusion perfumed with exotic bergamot. It’s a tea that soothes and uplifts with every sip.
Earl Grey tea was named in honour of 19th Century British Prime Minister, Charles Grey. It’s believed he received a gift of tea from China that was flavoured with bergamot oil. Grey asked British tea merchants to recreate it and it's been a firm favourite around the world ever since. We think our Royal Earl Grey is a superb example – as did the Great Taste Award judges. They praised the tea for its balance and singled it out as ‘a sound example of a strong Earl Grey’.
