From Kenya's Central Highlands. This limited-edition black tea has a distinctive Imenti quality and is rich with golden tips. We adore its exotic floral finish and thick, malty depths, which instantly take you to the verdant slopes of Mount Kenya.
Although many tea regions across the world are stunning locations, Kenya's Central Highlands are particularly noteworthy. It truly is beyond words to describe the experience of strolling among its hillside tea gardens first thing in the morning as the sun rises over the horizon. Thank goodness, this gorgeous tea from the Imenti Tea Factory allows you to travel there at any moment. The tea has a maroon hue and rich aromas of malt and biscuit. Its distinctive smoky richness at the finish is reminiscent of its unique terroir.
More than 1200 hectares of gardens on the foothills of Mount Kenya—known to the Ameru people living there as Kirimara—are the source of Imenti's tea leaves. The red volcanic soil of the region nourishes the tea bushes, which flourish at 2000 metres above sea level. The smallholder tea growers place avocado and grevillea trees amid the bushes to provide shade and keep humidity, which results in the highest-quality tea leaves.Most tea produced by Imenti is CTC, but we were lucky to source this top quality whole leaf Flowery Broken Orange Pekoe Special. Although we prefer it with milk, it's still delicious on its own when brewed slowly.
