This tea is enhanced with dried yuzu fruit and a little amount of matcha powder, and it is made from the stalks and stems of tea leaves. We adore its faint citrus undertones, umami artichoke tastes, and toasted nori-like scents.
Japan's Yuzu Kukicha
Kukicha, sometimes called Bōcha, is an authentic example of Japanese tea excellence. It's also a prime illustration of Japanese sustainability and efficiency. Following the producers' harvest, the tea leaves are brought to tea masters, also known as "Chashi," for roasting and blending. The residual leaf stems and stalks were discovered by the Chashi to still be flavorful and to make a lovely tea on their own. We chose this delectable Kukicha, which has matcha powder sprinkled on top and tart dried yuzu fruit bits. This is a pleasantly unusual and calming tea that is high in calming theanine.
The most southwesterly of Japan's main islands is Kyūshū. It's a beautiful location with pristine Pacific shoreline, verdant plains, and southern volcanic peaks; it also produces some of Japan's most sought-after cuisine and beverages. Kagoshima prefecture is located south of Kyūshū and is centered around the active volcano Sakurajima and a deep bay. The warm, humid, and mineral-rich soils of this region are ideal for growing organic green tea, which is why it is well-known for its superior quality. Kagoshima is also well known for its superior quality produce, especially its seedless citrus fruits (this area is home to the town of Satsuma).
Each and every morning, my favourite cup of tea would be English Breakfast. It’s strong, it’s coloury, it’s got a wonderful nutty flavour that I really do enjoy, and it takes the milk well.
William Manning, Senior Tea TasterIn the UK Head Office we taste over 500 cups of tea every day, to search for the best quality teas available from around the world.
Dominic Marriot, Tea TasterLater on in the afternoon I might try something like a Darjeeling that has the muscatel flavour, or maybe even a high-grown Ceylon, but definitely my favourite brew, and the one that I drink the most of, is English Breakfast.
